Alchemy intended to start a palatable conversation where the design and food concept build the basis for the interiors of U Bistro. Set in one of Cairo’s most beautiful heritage buildings, Alchemy’s design concept was based on respecting the existing forms while adding a contemporary interpretation that celebrates the “nowness” of the new venue. It is Alchemy’s mantra to always follow the guiding ethos of authentic cultural codes and elevate the client’s experiences.

With a career spanning over 10 years in the culinary industry, Irfan Malek began his journey as an Apprentice Commis Chef and worked his way up in several restaurants and hotels in Malaysia before joining in 2008 the pre-opening team of Atlantis The Palm Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. Malek then worked at the One & Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives, followed by the Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and headed back to the Maldives to assist the opening team of the prestigious Velaa Private Island. In 2015, he consulted as Head Chef for the Zebra Square restaurant in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia and launched a healthy food concept before returning to the Velaa Private Island in the Maldives as Senior Chef de Cuisine.
